FITC was established in 1981 as a Limited by Guarantee not for profit professional services organisation, based on the Company’s Act of 1968. It was created in response to the recommendations of the Pius Okigbo Committee, which was set-up by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1976, to review the Nigerian financial system. FITC’s Institutional Members are members of the Nigerian Banker’s Committee, comprises of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation and all licensed banks in Nigeria.

FITC has become an authority in the space of training Board Directors on Corporate Governance in Nigeria and Sub-Sahara Nigeria, in turn delivering quantum value in driving good governance and leadership within organisations.
Leveraging our partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank and our pool of trained facilitators, FITC ensures that its board leadership and executive education curricula address contemporary issues and challenges facing the financial institutions in particular, and the economy at large.
Aside the IFC, other organizations in partnership with FITC in delivering Corporate Governance Programmes include, the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), The World Bank/International Finance Corporation, and The Mortgage Banking Association of Nigeria (MBAN) etc.
